Exemplary 19th Century Qing Dynasty Chinese Embroidered Court Robe

Mid to late 19th century, an embroidered Chinese robe in red ground, replete with numerous roundels containing courtly embroidered scenes, both front and back. Incorporated in roundels are several areas of "Forbidden" stitch work, with significant portions in this stitch present on the sleeve. Base with waves and central mountain, as well as several large symbols rendered in the "Forbidden" knot style. A full collar is present, with several court figures depicted. Reverse side fully decorated as the front. A superb example; 49" wd. with sleeves extended, 41" ht.
